STREET TEAM GUIDE
As a street team member, your primary focus in helping Houston Beer Week grow will be to approach bars, restaurants, breweries, retailers, and others to hold events during Houston Beer Week. This will not only make HBW a success this year, but when venues have a smiling face to talk to, will also guarantee participation in the future. You are that smiling face!
WHO SHOULD YOU TALK TO
Quite frankly, everyone: don’t stop at the normal venues like beer bars and breweries. Talk to wine bars that happen to have neat beer selections (three years ago, 13 Celsius held a gueuze tasting; it was amazing). Talk to movie theatres that serve great beers. Talk to grocery stores with a nice beer selection. Talk to anyone you can imagine that has a craft beer connection.
WHAT KIND OF EVENTS SHOULD YOUR PROMOTE
Many venues will already have ideas of what they want to do for HBW. But a lot of venues will need guidance. Some ideas that you can suggest include: Tap takeovers, pint nights, beer/food pairings, beer dinners, meet-the-brewers events, public tastings, and specialty tappings or flights. The possibilities are endless! (Two years ago, Mongoose v Cobra did a beer/poetry pairing. Poetry!)
WHAT DETAILS SHOULD I STRESS TO VENUES
First off, HBW events are good for Houston, good for HBW, but most importantly, great for venues. Events will attract regulars and new customers alike, which means more business for participants.
Houston Beer Week 2015 will run eight days, from April 18-25. Because we want a healthy concentration of events, encourage venues to consider multiple events, especially during weekdays.
HBW takes some of the marketing burden away from venues: we list events on our website (with a handy calendar and map) and provide social media shout-outs for events and venues.
HOW CAN MY VENUES REGISTER EVENTS
The preferred method is to point them to the event registration form. However, if you’re willing, you can gather the information (make sure you get all relevant info) and fill out the form yourself. Again, since this will be a burden on you, the preference is for the venue to do so.
WHO IS MY TEAM LEAD
We’ve got a talented team of street team leads to help you with your duties, to ensure that venues get proper coverage, and to ensure that no one venue is hit by multiple people. HBW divides the city into five areas with talented leads, these are divided by I-10 and I-45 outside of I-610:
