During Houston Beer Week, we expect to have several brewery dignitaries in town for events, dinners, tastings, Monsters Of Beer Charity Festival and other fun stuff. Most of these folks aren’t very familiar with Houston and we thought they might appreciate a little help. Toward that end, we are announcing the Houston Beer Week Ambassador Program. If you would like to hob-nob with the greats of the craft brewing world, drop us a line at houstonbeerweek(AT)gmail(DOT)com and let us know. We are very interested to pair Houston beer geeks with our craft brewery folk. Here’s what you will need to know:
- At present, we will be accepting up to 30 volunteers to serve as Ambassadors. We may expand or contract this number once we have a better idea how many people will require assistance during Houston Beer Week.
- Your main job will be to make the out-of-town brewery people feel welcome and at home. They may need advice as to good restaurants or help with maps or other assistance. We would like you to be their “go to” person while they are in Houston.
- To be an Ambassador, you will need to be available by 5pm each night of Houston beer Week (November 12 – 18, 2011) and perhaps earlier a few of those days. We might be able to pair two Ambassadors together to cover different days if need be. If these hours do not fit your schedule, being an Ambassador may not work for you – but we may have others needs along the way, so drop us a line anyway.
- Ambassadors will need a reliable car with room to carry giveaways and knick-knacks to events, and, of course, extra people if the brewery people need transportation!
- We need Ambassadors to be on-time (at least during HBW) – the brewery folk visiting from out of town will be relying on our Ambassadors to get them to their events in a timely fashion.
- Ambassadors will need a decent understanding of how to get around Houston and the surrounding areas (including how to avoid traffic when necessary). Have a GPS? Good enough for us.
- We may need Ambassadors to accept packages shipped to Texas or perhaps pick up and/or drop off brewery people at the airport.
- We will be asking all Ambassadors to find 10 bars/restaurants that serve craft beer and convince them to participate in Houston Beer Week. We will work with these establishments to get the events scheduled, we just need help identifying all of the great places in Houston that serve craft beer! (especially those “outside the loop”)
- Unfortunately, there is no remuneration for being a Houston Beer Week Ambassador, but you will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with brewery royalty and also to purchase 2 tickets to “The After Before Monsters” before anyone else. (yes, you can squeal now)
